OPPOSITION SLAMS PM MODI ON INDEPENDENCE DAY

Opposition parties hit out at Prime Minister Modi on his assertions of heralding ‘Amrit Kaal’, advocating gender equality, and finishing nepotism. Opposition leaders said, his government is in no position to preach since it has failed on all counts. Congress President Sonia Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Modi and his government on Independence Day. She alleged that a “self-engaged government” is determined to ‘trivialize’ the sacrifices of freedom fighters and achievements of the country and cautioned that the party will “strongly oppose” any such attempt for “political gains”. She added, “Indian National Congress will strongly oppose any misrepresentation of historical facts for political gains and every attempt to put great national leaders like (Mahatma) Gandhi-Nehru-(Sardar Vallabhbhai) Patel-(Abul Kalam) Azad Ji in the dock on the ground of falsity.” She added that BJP is trying to malign leaders to further its political propaganda and called the Modi government ‘narcissists’. Congress demanded a report card of the eight years of rule by the BJP and an explanation of “unfulfilled promises”. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said that historic Independence Day speeches have been given from Red Fort and it was expected that Prime Minister would give a mature speech while understanding his responsibilities and the dignity of his office, but it is unfortunate that Prime Minister let everyone down.In his address, PM said that big challenges before the country were nepotism, dynasty and corruption, asserting that “we have to fight” against these together. Khera asked what happened to the promises of doubling farmers’ income, giving houses to all, bringing back black money, and providing jobs. While quoting PM Modi’s comment on corruption, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury Tweeted, “Nepotism? Loan waivers of over ₹10 lac crore to cronies?”. He said the fight against corruption should begin by scrapping electoral bonds which legalized political corruption. Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee sought to demolish Mr. Modi’s Independence Day address. “As India marks 75 years of its independence, are we really living in ‘Amrit Kaal’. Is this the ‘Amrit Kaal’ we dreamt off, where Indian Rupee is weakening by the day, where prices of fuel are shooting through the roof and economy is in complete shambles”.

15 August 2022 - A Black Day for the oppressed segment of Indian Society

Minorities including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and even Dalits & Kashmiris are celebrating 15 August 2022 as a Black Day. Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over will also observe Indian Independence Day as ‘Black Day’ to convey the message to the international community that New Delhi continues to deny them their inalienable right to self-determination. As Indians across the world are celebrating their Independence Day on August 15, minority groups in India and overseas take this moment to highlight the oppressive treatment meted out to them by the Hindutva government and raise their voices against the ruling elite. The Dalits are being persecuted by upper class Hindus over relatively unimportant problems like land, wages, housing, and untouchability, which is why they observe August 15 as a Black Day. Everyone is aware of the relationship between the RSS and the BJP; the RSS is an outspokenly anti-minority group. Members of this group not only openly support violence against minorities but actively make anti-minority comments. There is a question when India will start to think over it......?

HYPOCRISY OF INDIAN POLICE

In UP, India, police showered flower petals on Hindu Karwariyas walking on a busy road from a helicopter. The same police force put Muslims in jail if they offer Namaz on the roadside. In the recent past India witnessed a sudden rise in protest by Hindu right wings against the Muslims offering Friday Namaz in open. In videos, the same UP police can be seen using force to thrash Muslims who offered Namaz on roads in UP. Recently eight street vendors were arrested by the Haridwar police for offering namaz at a public place. Those arrested were residents of Jwalapur area and they were offering namaz at a weekly market in Shivalik Nagar. According to reports, the vendors used to sell vegetables in the local market that falls under the Ranipur police station limits. This is the height of hypocrisy by Indian state institutions as well as the general masses. For some action, there are two different reactions, based on the community you belong. If a Muslim confer a religious practice in open, he is considered as culprit and police will immediately arrest him. But if same is done by Hindus, they are showered with flower petals. Humanity should speak against such double standards in India. The world community must raise its voice, urging India to stop such hypocritical practices.

US SCHOLAR CRITICIZED HINDUISM IN TODAY’S INDIA

Hinduism embraces many religious ideas as it’s not a single religion but a compilation of many traditions and philosophies which has shattered now and adopted an extremist’s agenda. US scholar from University of Chicago ‘Wendy Doniger’ researched Hinduism in India and depicted emergence of Hindutva in her book ‘An American Girl in India – Letters and Recollections (1963-64)’. Earlier, she was believer of liberal essence of Hinduism but now she has changed her mind due to activities of hardliner Hindus against others. She is following today’s India through the media and gave her analysis that “India has changed from a place where multiplicity thrived to a uni-dimensional society over the years. In the sixties, the mood was much different from that of what it is now. There was a happy atmosphere in India, openness among people, and they made friends with different people,” whereas now there is hyper-sensitivity about religion that is Hinduism”. She further said, “Right now, people are really worried about what’s happening in India” and what has spurred “this tremendous outpouring of indignation, as Indian politics has too changed from ‘Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava’ to religious exclusiveness which led to the change in people’s perception about one another”. Wendy Doniger, who finished teaching Hinduism at the University of Chicago, was worried about the wanton abuse of laws restricting freedom of speech and creating a climate of fear.” The “enemies of free speech have Divinity School in India today”, she made a pun on ‘Hindutva’. As a whole, Hindus have become more fanatics due to easy access of electronic and social media besides its modernization.
